Prices and buying
How much does a wall bed cost?
Our Alpha wallbeds start at $2,275 for a single, $2,495 for a double, $2,675 for a queen and $2,925 for a king, including GST. Premium colours and the fold-down desk cost extra. Delivery starts at $450 and assembly & installation is $600. Our wall bed price guide has full examples.
What's included in the price?
The wallbed cabinet, the steel bed frame, the spring lifting mechanism and the handles. The mattress, side cabinets, delivery, assembly and installation are priced separately, so you only pay for what you need.
Do I have to pay the full amount up front?
No. You can pay 50% when you order, and the balance is charged automatically 21 days later. Or pay in full if you prefer.
Is a wall bed the same as a murphy bed?
Yes. "Murphy bed" is the American name. Wall bed, wallbed, fold-down bed, pull-down bed and hidden bed all describe a bed that folds up into a cabinet against the wall.
Sizes and fitting your room
What sizes do your wall beds come in?
Vertical: single, double, queen and king. Horizontal: single, double and queen. They take standard Australian mattress sizes: single 92 × 187 cm, double 138 × 187 cm, queen 153 × 203 cm and king 183 × 203 cm. See all measurements on our dimensions page.
Should I choose a vertical or horizontal wall bed?
A vertical bed has the traditional orientation – head of the bed to the wall. It folds down from a tall cabinet and uses the least wall width. A horizontal bed has a side to wall orientation – long side of the bed to the wall – and folds down from a lower, wider cabinet. It suits low or sloping ceilings and walls under a window, and it sticks out less into the room when open. Read vertical vs horizontal wall beds for more.
How high does my ceiling need to be?
Vertical single and double cabinets are 2087 mm high. Vertical queen and king cabinets are 2215 mm. Horizontal cabinets are 1187 mm (single), 1567 mm (double) and 1721 mm (queen). Allow some extra for cornices, and for anything mounted on the wall above.
How much floor space do I need when the bed is open?
Measured from the wall: 2150 mm for a vertical single or double, 2285 mm for a vertical queen or king, and 1258 mm, 1637 mm or 1791 mm for a horizontal single, double or queen. Add room to walk past the end or side of the bed.
What kind of wall does a wall bed need?
The cabinet must be fixed to the wall studs or another structural part of the wall. The fixings supplied are for timber stud walls. Brick, concrete and steel-stud walls need different fixings, so tell us about your wall when you order and we'll plan for it.
Can I have a wall bed in an apartment?
Yes. Our ute fits most underground and low-clearance carparks. A lift adds $100, and so do stairs ($100 per floor). If your building has strata by-laws about fixing things to walls, check with your strata manager before assembly and installation.
Mattress and mechanism
What mattress do I need?
A standard mattress in the size of your wallbed, up to 30 cm thick. We recommend the Contour Enhance and Physio Regal for our wallbeds, and you can add one when you order. Other models that suit wallbeds are listed on the wallbed page.
Can I use my own mattress?
Yes, if it's the right size and no more than 30 cm thick. The springs are matched to the weight of the mattress, so tell us which mattress you'll use.
How does the mechanism work? Is it hard to open?
The bed sits on a steel frame with a spring lifting mechanism that balances the weight of the bed and mattress. It folds up and down easily, and a fold-away leg supports the bed when it's open. Try one in our showroom.
Is a wall bed comfortable to sleep on?
Yes. It's a full-size mattress on a steel frame, not a thin fold-out mattress like a sofa bed's. With the right mattress, it's as comfortable as a traditional bed.
Options
Can I get a wall bed with a desk?
Yes. A fold-down desk is available on the vertical single, double and queen, and on the horizontal double and queen. It adds $515. The desk stays level as you lower the bed, so you don't need to clear it first. See wall beds with a desk.
What colours can I choose?
21 colours from Laminex, Formica and Polytec: 14 at the standard price and 7 Premium colours. You can choose one colour, or one for the doors and another for the cabinetry. Handles come in silver or black. See them in person in the showroom.
Can I add storage around the bed?
Yes. Side cabinets and bookcases fit either side of the bed, with shelves, drawers, a pull-out table or a pull-out hanging rail. Each one adds its width (386–500 mm) to the wall you need.
Delivery, assembly and installation
How long does it take to get a wall bed?
Each wallbed is made to order. Delivery, assembly and installation usually happen on the same day, currently about 6 weeks from your order.
Do you offer assembly and installation, and what does it cost?
Yes. Our own team assembles your wallbed and anchors it to the wall for $600, or $760 with a desk. Side cabinets cost $120–$200 each to install. Assembly & installation is optional: every wallbed comes with step-by-step assembly instructions. It weighs around 200 kg in several pieces, so DIY is a two-person job for someone with some experience.
Where do you deliver, and how much is it?
Our own team delivers from Gladesville: $450 within an hour's drive, $550 for 1–2 hours, $650 for 2–3 hours and $750 for 3–4 hours, once per order. Further away? Call us for a quote. Check your postcode.
